Description
Barclays Capital was a complete refurbishment of the fourth floor of the Condor House office building adjacent to St. Paul's Cathedral, London. The contract required us to work closely with not only the client and architects, but also the M&E and dry-lining contractors to achieve a high specification and top quality finished office environment within a very tight programme. One of the most distinctive features of this project was the impressive bespoke reception desk: constructed of black impact-resistant glass with a white sail effect worktop, the desk was designed to “float” into the wall behind in the architects’ design intent sketches – A feature that we managed to bring to life with some considerable success.

"As operations manager for Wates Interiors Limited, going that bit further in giving the customer what they want is second nature to me. So working along side a company that delivers is what I want and this is exactly what I get when using SJE.

We have completed over 10 projects together, working in the following sectors. Legal, education, government and financial where introducing SJE to our blue chip clients has never been a problem.

Our last project together was the head quarters for London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority. Where time quality and budget were key factors in winning this project. So I made an easy choice and involved SJE, knowing that their entry cost would be 95% of their exit.

Prior to London Fire Brigade we worked together on a project for Barclay’s Capital where quality and timing were the key drivers. As you will see in the pictures, with the both the reception desk and the curved oak wall, the quality stands out. However what is not so visible is all the effort put in on the detail and interfaces with other trades and disciplines; getting the structural stability right on the curved wall for example. Having the wall in place before the completion of walls and ceilings due to the complicated audio visual package meant that the protection to the finished element was paramount. SJE achieved this with a real sense of pride.

As for the desk the whole challenge was meeting the architect’s vision of having one half of the desk seemly floating in air. SJE achieved this with clever introduction of brackets and careful manufacture of the corian work surfaces. Would I recommend them? Yes, this company is an example of true craftsmanship."
